General Rules

 

Age limit: Participants must be aged 28 or below.

 

Competition Rounds:The New York Division consists of two rounds:

Regional Preliminary: First-Round (Online): Contestants submit a performance video for jury evaluation. Selected contestants will advance to the Final Round. 

The repertoire submitted for the Preliminary Round may differ from the repertoire performed in the Final Round.

Regional Preliminary: Final-Round (Live): Finalists will perform live before the jury in New York City.


Memorization: All repertoires must be performed from memory, except for music composed in or after 20th Century.

 

Repertoire repetition: Repertoire may be repeated across different rounds.

 

Repertoire scope: Repertoire must comply with the specific requirements of each category. Categories designated for classical repertoire must present classical works only. Non-classical, jazz, popular, or improvisational repertoire is accepted only where expressly permitted by the relevant category requirements.


Preliminary and Finals Fees

Categories (Groups 1–33)

 

·     The early bird registration fee for the New York Regional Preliminary: First-Round for Groups 1-33 is USD 60.

·   The final registration fee for the New York Regional Preliminary: First-Round for Groups 1-33 is USD 80.

·     New York Regional Preliminary: Final-Round fee for Groups 1–33 is USD 240.

 

General Note

Participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, meals, visa-related expenses, insurance, and other personal costs.


Adjudication and Awards

 

New York Preliminary Round and Final Round

 

•       A 100-point scoring system will be adopted.

•       Participants receiving scores above 60 points will advance to the New York Finals.

•       90 points and above: First Prize Certificate; the teacher will receive an Excellent Teacher Award Certificate.

•       85–89.9 points: Second Prize Certificate; the teacher will receive an Excellent Teacher Award Certificate.

•       80–84.9 points: Third Prize Certificate.

•       79.9 points and below: Honorable Mention Certificate.

•       Certificates may be picked up on-site or collected from the participant’s designated professional teacher. The Organizing Committee will cover the cost of shipping certificates to the designated teacher.

•      The New York Regional Preliminary: Final-Round features an on-site scoring system. The final score will be calculated based on the average score given by all judges.

•       If an award placement within a category remains unfilled, all award recipients in the subsequent award levels will be advanced by one award level accordingly. All award decisions are based on the final scores and rankings determined by the jury.

Video, Photography, and Publication Policy

 

The Singapore International Young Pianist Competition Organizing Committee reserves the right to record, photograph, livestream, broadcast, publish, reproduce, edit, and use competition-related performances and activities, including rehearsals, award ceremonies, masterclasses, concerts, and related events.

 

By registering for the competition, participants and their legal guardians, where applicable, consent to the use of such materials by the Organizing Committee on its official website, social media platforms, livestreaming

channels, promotional materials, archives, and other official communication channels, without further approval or additional compensation.

Personal Data and Minor Protection

The Singapore International Young Pianist Competition Organizing Committee respects the privacy and personal data of all participants, especially minors.

 

Personal data submitted for the competition will be used only for purposes related to registration, administration, adjudication, communication, event organization, promotion, documentation, and other competition-related matters.

 

For participants below the age of 18, registration should be completed with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. By submitting the application, the parent or legal guardian confirms that they consent to the participant’s participation and to the use of the participant’s personal data for competition-related purposes.

 

The Organizing Committee will take reasonable care to protect participants’ personal data and will use such information responsibly in connection with the competition.

Withdrawal and Refund Policy

 

Application fees and Global Grand Finals fees are non-refundable once paid, except where the Organizing Committee approves a refund in exceptional and unforeseen circumstances.

 

Participants who withdraw from the competition after registration shall remain responsible for any travel, accommodation, visa-related expenses, insurance, or other personal costs already incurred.

Schedule Changes

 

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to make reasonable changes to the competition schedule, venues, jury arrangements, live finals, and related activities where necessary. Any such changes will be communicated to participants as soon as reasonably practicable.


Final Authority and Interpretation

 

The Singapore International Young Pianist Competition Organizing Committee reserves the right to interpret, amend, supplement, and enforce these regulations where necessary for the proper administration of the competition.

 

In the event of any matter not expressly covered in these regulations, or in the event of any ambiguity, inconsistency, dispute, or unforeseen circumstance, the Organizing Committee shall make the final decision in accordance with the principles of fairness, impartiality, and the proper conduct of the competition.

 

By registering for the competition, participants and their legal guardians, where applicable, are deemed to have read, understood, and agreed to comply with all rules and regulations of the competition, and to accept the decisions of the Organizing Committee as final.

 

The Organizing Committee will make every reasonable effort to ensure the smooth running of the competition, uphold fairness and transparency, and respect the rights and interests of all participants.
